Match Notes
A truly unforgettable match that took place over 2 weekends. 1st weekend: Started at 9am and spent over an hour trying to find an open walk on court (started at Laurel Hill, then went to Presidio Wall, then went to Rossi, back to Laurel Hill, finally back at Presidio Wall). We managed to grab court 3 as a group was wrapping up their lesson. About 15-20 minutes in, two women (let's call them Karen and Karen Jr) who had already been playing on court 1 since 9am come over and force us off as they claimed to have a 10:30am reservation. We told them we had been waiting for over an hour to get a court but they didn't seem to care. The ladies on court 4 however graciously gave us their court as they were about wrapping up. Here's where it starts getting interesting. About 5 mins later, another couple comes onto court 3 and kick off the Karens' as they had the ACTUAL RESERVATION. Meaning, the Karens' LIED to us about having the court reserved and tried to steal it from us. We were furious and gave them a strong verbal scolding as they were walking off the court. The elder Karen snapped a photo of my partner Adam as she left. We continued playing for another 10-15 minutes before getting kicked off by another couple that had an actual 10:30am reservation on court 4. After all this, we decided to postpone the remainder of the match to the following weekend instead of trying to find another court. As we were leaving, a police SUV pulls up and an officer comes up to us asking what happened. We were flabbergasted as we realized the Karen's had called the police on us. The officer asks us to turn around, takes down our information and hears out our story. The officer tell us we can stay or leave but he needs to get the Karen side of the story (apparently they live nearby). About 20 minutes pass by after which the officer returns and tells us they decide to retract their police complaint after I suppose they realized they were actually in the wrong and we had witnesses everywhere to prove what happened. The officer apologizes to us and we all take off. 2nd weekend: Had to reschedule from Saturday to Sunday due to rain but we finally were able to finish our match. It was a grueling duel (as it usually is between us) and came down to the final few points in the 10 pt tiebreak. I can't wait for what happens the next time we play. Moral of the story: remember to always ask people to prove they have a reservation if they try to kick you off! TL;DR: Spent over an hour trying to find an open court. After finally finding one, a couple Karen's tried to steal it by lying about having a reservation. We scolded them, they called the cops. Cops took both sides of the story after which Karen withdrew her police complaint.
